U.S. Rep Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, is experiencing treatment for pancreatic cancer, the congresswoman transmitted in a Sunday report on social media platform X.
My doctors have approved my diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Jackson Lee expressed. I am currently experiencing therapy to fight this disease that affects tens of thousands of Americans every year.
Jackson Lee, 74, describes Congressional District 18, a seat she has maintained for 30 years. In March, she conquered challenger Amanda Edwards, an ex-Houston City Councilwoman, in the most competitive primary of her congressional profession. Before the March primary, Jackson Lee had only outlined four primary opponents, and she beat all of them by substantial margins. She’s been in the Congress Party since 1995.
In her argument, Jackson Lee said she will probably be sometimes absent from Congress as she undergoes therapy but that she intends to resume helping her members with the benefits they merit and hope.
I am determined to perform with our Congressional Leadership including Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Speaker of the House to help this country and be current for votes on lawmaking that is necessary for the wealth and protection of the American people, the report said.
Jackson Lee formerly battled breast cancer. In 2012, she revealed that she was cancer-free after having been analysed the previous year.
I look ahead to having many more years to appreciate my family, and friends and to help our society and government, she said at the time.
Jackson Lee was born in Queens, New York and she fitted as a reviewer before she was selected to an at-large Houston City Council headquarters in 1989. She has since become a family name in Houston, the biggest city in Texas and the fourth most populated in the nation.
Last year, Jackson Lee ran an unsuccessful crusade for mayor of Houston. She failed by a wide margin to then-state Sen. John Whitmire and then promptly proclaimed that she would pursue reelection in Congress. Jackson Lee obtained an outpouring of approval on X following her nighttime statement.
